Every squat, every lunge, every burpee is driven by the music, helping you make it to that last rep, and

In each class you'll burn calories while toning arms, legs, abs and glutes. Plyometric or explosive moves
like high knees,
burpees, and jumping jacks are interchanged with isometric moves like lunges, squats, and kickboxing.

I became a Zumba Instructor in October 2011. However I have always been into fitness and keeping in shape and staying healthy, not only because I feel and look good but my parents have diabetes and heart disease. So being hereditary, I kept fit to prevent getting these diseases they refer to as silent killers. I had 2 C-sections - in 2009 and 2012. I did Zumba and Zumba Toning on both occasions to help lose the belly fat and excess skin. Because of the side to side hip movements and core engagements I was back to prepregnancy normal weight and toned in no time.
In 2017 I had a carotid artery dissection which led to mini strokes and having to stent my left carotid artery. The doctors were unsure of what caused it but after 6 months of not being able to lift, bend or workout I had put on 12 pounds. In January 2018 I was given the ok to resume light to medium paced exercises but no Zumba. I resumed teaching Zumba kids and started attending Strong Nation classes because it was cardio and interval training but with low levels. I did at low and base for 6 months and built my strength and endurance. After my next check up my Dr said he was impressed by my recovery and strength. He said coming from a fitness background I was able to recover fully and go back to normal exercises. In March 2020 I became a Strong Nation Instructor which coincided with Covid and started teaching Strong Nation and Zumba virtually. It has been an exciting journey so far which especially in the last 6 months has gotten me through some dark days mentally, being stuck inside during lockdown.
There really is no shortage of mental health benefits when exercise is involved. Exercise is
scientifically proven to increase
endorphin levels, aka feel-good hormones, which produces feelings of euphoria and minimises negative
feelings related to mental
health conditions like anxiety and depression. No matter your age, life stage or fitness level, you can
use exercise as an effective
self-help strategy to combat daily stress or to ease the symptoms of mental health.
Benefits of exercise
So if in the past 15 years I have been able to lose weight when I needed to the most at some difficult times post pregnancy and carotid dissection, I am sure I can guide you and help you meet your goals.
